Regain The Memory Of Your Youth With Vinpocetine!
Vinpocetine is a member of the “smart drug” family, and is a semi-synthetic
drug derived from Vincamine, a component extracted from the periwinkle
plant. It is believed, when taken regularly, to improve cerebral blood
flow, oxygen, energy, and improve memory and cognition.
Described as a vasodilator,
Vinpocetine protects against brain arteriosclerosis, which if left
unchecked, may lead to a stroke. Moreover, it appears only to affect the
areas of the brain that require treatment. This action has seen Vinpocetine
being used to improve hearing (particularly tinnitus), eyesight
difficulties, and to alleviate menopausal symptoms.
What Does The Research Say about Vinpocetine?
Vinpocetine has been the
subject of many research studies in different countries over the years, and
conclusions have been drawn highlighting improvements in blood circulation,
oxygen uptake and glucose utilization in the brain.
Research carried out by Kiss
and Karpati (1996) demonstrated an improvement in cerebral circulation and
oxygen utilization without precipitating changes in systemic circulation,
certain cerebral protection mechanisms, cognition-enhancing and
anticonvulsant activity.
Szobor and Klein (1976)
undertook research to determine the effectiveness of Vinpocetine in 100
patients with neurovascular diseases. Divided into two groups, forty six
patients were given combined treatments in a daily dose of 10-30 mg. The
remaining 54 patients were treated with oral Vinpocetine of 30-45 mg daily.
Vinpocetine demonstrated significant improvements in the reversible vascular
diseases of hypertensive encephalopathy, intermittent vascular cerebral
insufficiency and cerebral arteriosclerosis.
Balestreri et al. (1987)
documented the effects of Vinpocetine in a double blind clinical trial
involving 42 elderly patients with chronic cerebral dysfunction. In this
study, the patients received 10mg of Vinpocetine three times daily for a
month, then 5mg for two months. Improvements were noted in memory
functions, as measured by the Clinical Global Impression scale, the Sandoz
Clinical Assessment-Geriatric scale and the Mini-Mental Status
Questionnaire.
