Cataplexy is the name given to the condition in which sudden muscular weakness occurs when triggered by strong emotions – this includes anger, laughter or surprise. This can be a mild loss, or severe, leading to total collapse. Unlike conditions such as Narcolepsy, the individual does not lose consciousness, but cannot control their muscles. Sometimes the eyesight is affected. Most Cataplexy sufferers do also have Narcolepsy.
Treatments and supplements to help with Cataplexy include psychostimulants such as Modafinil or Picamilone, and smart drugs like Adrafinil.
