Dementia

Dementia as a syndrome is made up of a group of symptoms, all inter-related, that indicate an ongoing decline in how an individual’s brain is functioning. Symptoms may relate to many areas of the sufferer’s life including memory, speech, mobility and cognition, and there may be many different causes. An individual can have single cause of dementia, or multiple. There are also different types of dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease being one (as Alzheimer’s is not “dementia” in itself, it is a different health condition that is a type of dementia).
