Senescent cells (dead cells) occur naturally within the body as our cells age and stop multiplying. The resulting dead (senescent) cells do not leave the body, but instead accumulate and have been seen to have detrimental affects on the remaining healthy cells. This can cause issues with the immune system, cognition, stress resistance and other bodily functions.
To remove senescent cells, senolytics such as Dasatinib have been growing in popularity as a way to do this and as such slow down the aging process, as well as any detrimental affects a build up of senescent cells is having on the body.
