Aminoguanidine is a drug that acts as an inhibitor of diamine oxidase and nitric oxide synthase. It works to reduce or inhibit advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are proteins or lipids that have become glycated. AGEs are a bio-marker in the aging process and responsible for the development or worsening of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and kidney disease.
Aminoguanidine supplements are taken with a view to slow down the aging process and protect against other age related conditions.
